About Retail Design Institute
Who is the Retail Design Institute? We are the retail industry's creative professionals and we were founded in 1961 to be a collaborative community where ideas, knowledge and passion would be shared at a local level and enable our members to fulfill the fast-paced planning and design needs of retail. Today, our membership includes architects, graphic designers, lighting designers, interior designs, store planners, visual merchandisers, resource designers, brand strategists, educators, trade partners, editors and publishers, and students. With active Chapters in Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami/Fort Lauderdale, New York, Ohio, Seattle, St. Louis, Sao Paulo, Sydney/Melbourne, Toronto and Dublin Ireland, the Institute meetings are attended by over 4000 members and non-members a year. We are in the process of re-activating and launching new chapters in Tokyo, Chicago, Dubai, London, Minneapolis, and San Francisco.
What do we stand for?
The Retail Design Institute stands on five key principals:
Innovation - Chapter Meetings are the platforms where the latest products, tools, trends, store designs and design inspirations are showcases)
Collaboration - The Institute is the common thread that bridges competition and industry silos to foster a spirit focused on the greater good: to create memorable and successful selling environments.
Education - Providing opportunities for professional development through chapter meetings, tours, seminars, speakers, research, and the student design competition curriculum.
Leadership - The Institute is represented internationally and at chapter levels by the top names in the retail industry through their support by volunteering as chapter leaders, seminar panelists, speakers, editorial board members, competition judges, and inductees into the Legion of Honor.
Credentials - Through a system of membership status, the Institute vets the degree of experience and education of our membership, with the highest order being Professional level status.

The Retail Design Institute Elects International OfficersThe elections for the International Officers took place at the Fall 2008 board meeting hosted by the Boston Chapter on September 13th, 2008.
Returning as International President is Andrew McQuilkin, RDI , I want to thank the Board for supporting my re-election as it represents all the progress we have made in the last two years. We have come far; the rebranding was launched in January, our communication between all chapters has never been greater, the website is up and running, and now we can focus on the next round of initiatives over the next two years.
Ken Fuller, RDI president of the Atlanta Chapter was elected as International Vice President. Ken has been working in the past several months with Minneapolis to create a city center chapter. Ken's focus will be to continue to help expand the Institute here the U.S.
Also returning for a second term are Brian Dyches, RDI as International Secretary and Luanne Perry, RDI as Treasurer. Both have headed up major initiatives and the past two years that have been well received by the Board. They both have a commitment to see the organization expand internationally and keep the Institute focused on serving the needs of our members.
